Americas first all black athletic club the Alpha Culture Club was formed in the year 1904 in Harlem by Jamaican born brothers. After two years, the Alphas went on to form basketball team named Alpha Big Fives. The Alpha Big Fives basketball team went on to win the 1912 Colored Basketball World Championships. At these championships, they defeated the reigning champions Monticello Athletic Association of Pittsburgh.
